Tony Rock will host stand-up series to promote comedians ‘overshadowed in the mainstream’

Comedian Tony Rock has been tapped to host an upcoming series of live stand-up comedy DVDs called Comedy Underground. The first live taping is going down March 28 at Club Nokia in Los Angeles and will feature performances by Luenell Campbell, Hope Flood, Scruncho, Talent, Freddie Ricks and Rob Stapleton. That taping will comprise the first two episodes of a six-episode run. The remaining four episodes will film in May. Negotiations are currently underway to create a television series around the DVD tapings.

“Comedy Underground was created to showcase seasoned comedians that have been overshadowed in mainstream entertainment,” Executive Producer Angela White says. “There are less urban sitcoms now than in the 90’s, making it hard for good comics to land TV deals and big feature film roles. Comedy Underground will help shed more light on these talented performers.”
