Tracy Morgan, Ardie Fuqua suing Walmart over deadly crash

ardie fuquaThere’s a new update on what the celebrity-obsessed media calls “the Tracy Morgan car crash”, also known as a 6-car crash that killed comedian James McNair on June 7. Morgan is suing Walmart in a civil court case filed with the U.S. District Court in New Jersey. The 45-year old 30 Rock star was recently released from a rehabilitation center after suffering broken ribs, a broken nose and a broken leg. Fellow comedians Ardie Fuqua (right) and Harris Stanton, as well as Morgan’s assistant, also suffered injuries in the crash. Morgan is now recovering at home.

Walmart driver Kevin Roper was behind the wheel of the truck that crashed into Morgan’s limo bus on the New Jersey Turnpike early that morning. Roper was driving 20 mph over the speed limit. Initial reports claimed that he had been driving for over 24 hours, but turns out to have only been driving for just under his 14-hour limit. Roper was charged with one count of death by auto and four counts of assault, for which he pleaded not guilty. Walmart released a statement expressing that it was “deeply sorry” that one of its trucks was involved with the incident. “Our thoughts continue to go out to them and their families and friends,” the statement read.

“The defendants’ negligence was a substantial contributing factor in causing plaintiffs’ injuries,” the complaint declared. Joining the Saturday Night Live comedian in the suit are Fuqua, his personal assistant Jeff Millea and Millea’s wife, Krista.
