• Video: Will Ferrell wants you to e-mail Paramount to demand Anchorman 2

If you are one of the many Anchorman fans who craves to see Will Ferrell in a Mad Men suit again, don’t hold your breath. In an exclusive web chat with the UK’s The Sun and its readers, the Everything Must Go star was asked if he wanted to do Anchorman 2. He answered, “I would love to do Anchorman 2, but the studio that controls the rights to that movie isn’t really interested.” Paramount officially passed on the movie last summer.

Ferrell, who is this year’s recipient of the Mark Twain Award for Humor, is not the only member of the Channel 4 news team that wishes to do a sequel. Steve Carrell has gone on the record to say that he would love to return to the big screen as the dim-witted weatherman, Brick Tamland. But Paramount Studios has said, “We’ve run the numbers and it’s not a good fit.” Odd, since the 2004 picture grossed $90 million world wide (about $85 million domestic) on a $26 million budget. It opened number two its first weekend behind the blockbuster Spiderman 2 (I mean, if that character got two sequels, certainly Ron Burgundy deserves one!). An Anchorman sequel has the obvious makings of a major tentpole film for Paramount.

Ferrell pleaded to fans to write e-mails to Paramount demanding Anchorman 2. We also suggest snail mail, phone calls, carrier pigeons and telepathic requests. Let’s get the men in stunningly magnificent suits back on the big screen! For now, check out Ferrell’s video below.
