Wal-Mart trucker likely cause of Tracy Morgan accident

Kevin Parker, cause of Tracy Morgan crash? The driver thought to be the cause of the six-car accident that left one person dead and comedian Tracy Morgan in critical condition, turned himself in and has already posted a $50,000 bail, New Jersey State Police said earlier today. Kevin Roper, 35, was behind the wheel of a Wal-Mart 18-wheeler at around 1 am Saturday when he failed to observe a “slow-moving traffic ahead” sign.

“At the last minute, he swerved to try and avoid the Mercedez limo bus but struck it from behind, forcing the limo to rotate and overturn,” Sgt. Gregory Williams of New Jersey State Police told CNN. Williams added he doesn’t believe alcohol had anything to do with the crash.

Roper was charged with one count of death by automobile and four counts of assault by automobile. TMZ obtained Roper’s mugshot, seen to the right.

The crash killed veteran comedian and Morgan’s writer James McNair, aka Jimmy Mack; he was 63. Two others – comedian Ardie Fuqua and Morgan’s assistant Jeffrey Millea remain in critical condition at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital, according to reports. Comedian Harris Stanton, who was also on the limo bus, was treated and released, according to reports. The comedians were returning from a Friday night show at Dover Downs in Delaware when the accident took place on the New Jersey Turnpike in Cranbury, about an hour south of New York. No one was injured in the four other cars involved in the crash.

Wal-Mart “will take full responsibility” if the National Transportation Safety Board – who is currently investigating the accident – determine Parker caused the accident, Wal-Mart President Bill Simon said in a statement.
