• Watch: NBC’s Last Comic Standing first preview features JB Smoove and comedians you should know

JB Smoove hosts Last Comic StandingNBC’s Last Comic Standing is slotted to return for its ninth season next month with new hosts, new judges and a new format. And the first teaser trailer  was just released! Executive producer Wanda Sykes has taken hold of the twice-cancelled stand-up comedy competition show. Comedian J.B. Smoove (pictured to the right) takes over hosting duties this summer when the show premieres on Thursday, May 22. The 40-second preview video shows us everything we need to know. There will be 100 comedians battling for one grand prize. Comedy icons Roseanne Barr, Keenen Ivory Wayans, and Russell Peters make appearances in the trailer, but NBC’s promo reel focuses on the most important part of the show: the comedians. If you look closely, some rising comedy darlings can be spotted– like Mike Vecchione, Greer Barnes, Keith Alberstadt, Mike Lawrence, Luis J. Gomez (pictured above), Nick Turner and Joe Machi. The show has struggled to stay on message and retain viewers. Now that they’ve dropped the gimmicky ‘open call’ auditions and cast solid comedians, the show may have a chance to stay on the air for as long as its general talent show counterpart, America’s Got Talent. Check out the teaser video below and check out the new and hopefully improved reincarnation of Last Comic Standing on May 22 at 9 pm EST on NBC.
