• Weird Al Yankovic tells Sony Music they owe him $5 million, files suit

Just because he seems goofy and sings funny songs, it doesn’t mean you can fuck with Weird Al Yankovic and get away with it. You dig?

The musical parody king filed suit against Sony Music Entertainment, claiming the record label owes him $5 million– from digital album and song sales via online retailers like iTunes and Amazon, as well as from ringtone downloads. Part of that sum also includes monies Yankovic claims he’s owed as part of Sony’s equity stake in YouTube, which has legal access to the record label’s content; the artist’s song and video for “White and Nerdy” — among other Weird Al songs — was one of the video site’s most popular plays, the suit claims, and therefore Yankovic is entitled to a portion of profits.

Eminem won a similar suit against Universal Music Group last year, the Tennessean points out. On April 24, a court in Los Angeles will decide how many millions of dollars of retroactive royalties Eminem and his producers will be awarded.

Yankovic also just launched his new Web show, Face to Face, exclusively on the new Nerdist YouTube channel. Check out the intro below:
